A definitive dance-floor classic, that builds momentum quicker than the duo drop beats, the third track is destined for a place in the Chemical Brother’s hall of anthems.Released last month - in time for mid May Ibiza openers - Swoon is the only pre-released single from the album, and has proved to be a slow burner, after it disappointingly charted lower than any of the group’s hits to date. But Rowlands & Simons, should remain quietly optimistic on the album’s closer, Wonders of the Deep.

It’s been 3 years since Klaxons burst onto the music scene, injecting a dazzling and much needed moment of rave hedonism into the midst of indie tedium with the truly original and enormously influential Mercury award-winning album Myths Of The Near Future. Now with the charts full of everything from synth pop to techno-based indie bands, pop culture is once more in thrall to electronic music. Always ahead of the curve, Klaxons have returned with a new back to basics rock approach and a burning desire to turn the music world on its head once again and inspire kids to pick up guitars. Produced in LA by US rock legend Ross Robinson Sepultura, Slipknot, At the Drive In, The Cure and written throughout the last three long years of extreme musical and psychedelic experimentation, it’s a brilliant alternative rock record. We were an art project that got out of hand, says bassist Jamie Reynolds but now we are a band.A game-changing album dripping with sonic and cultural ambition, but still heavy on the flashes of pop genius that we all know and love Klaxons for Ranging from guitar muscle assault to deceptively delicate melodies, the epic 5 minute opus Flashover encapsulates the album as a musical whole and is both a bold statement of intent and a tantalising taster of what’s still to come.
B-side Zebra Crossing offers a little more insight more ambitious playing reinforces the ska stylings that so obviously influence the band, whilst adding more of a dark dance groove obviously a more freeform style more akin to the band in their natural state and yet actually coming off as the better track. It will certainly be interesting to see where they go next.Curiosity is an acceptable debut that won?t set the world on fire, but certainly should draw some attention to the lads before the next release. I certainly want to hear what?s next, and hope that they build on the stylings of Zebra Crossing instead of the play-it-safe sound of Curiosity - we could then be looking at a band with the potential to start hunting for the tag of Next Big Thing.Pixie Lott has just released her fourth single Turn It Up, taken from the album of the same name.
In the meantime, Foxconn is bearing the increased labor costs, though more expensive devices could be one downstream result. Separately, Steve Jobs attempted to recharacterize the sweatshop description at D8 recently, pointing to factory amenities like restaurants and swimming pools. Others, including labor-focused protesters outside the facilities, would beg to differ.Glance around the industry, and it seems that royalty monitoring, collection, and distribution are hopelessly chaotic affairs. But that spells opportunity for a number of smart technology plays. On Tuesday morning, Universal Music Group Publishing officially tapped TuneSat to help monitor performance royalties on broadcast television TuneSat is mostly a behind-the-scenes, non-hyped company, though its revenue potential could be important The company scours broadcast television for unauthorized uses of songs, thereby unearthing found money for publishers, labels, and other rights holders.
The next real monster is Immunize’ featuring Liam Howlett and some huge drum n’ bass-ery and machine gun synth attack and that leads into The Island’ parts 1 & 2, altogether 9 and a half minutes of music that hits you on every level imaginable – I can see this one being an Ibiza favourite for years to come.Witchcraft’ slows thing down for a minute or two well about thirty seconds and then the riff loaded Self vs Self’ featuring Anders Friden of In Flames crosses their beats with metal and a dark masterpiece.Steven Wilson pops up on The Fountain’ without really making a mark and closer Encoder’ sounds like the end of a night of clubbing and brings the album down nicely.
His songs are coming from the Americana side of SingerSongwriter and he has a voice that really isn’t great – slight and highish pitch – and he has a tendency to a rather whiney sound but the overall effect, especially when his band kick in and push the Anthemic’ button or he slows it all down and you find yourself nodding along with his pace is just bloody wonderful. He has a way about his playing that at low levels is delicious but, unusually for a singersongwriter, gets better as you turn the wick up and there is enough variety in his songs style to avoid the one-paced pitfalls that many others tend to fall into..Back To the Wild’ has echoes of the great British songwriters of yore while Land Of Dreams’ shuffles delightfully as the banjo kicks in but Cinderella’ kicks along with real punch and very sixties-mod sort of jaunty bounce Standout number for me is For A Little While - it just seems to encapsulate all the good things about his writing and the playing is terrific.

She explained I feel sexier than ever. He’s brought out a more playful side of me, I’m more confident. Bonamassa plays around 200 shows a year and has built his career the right’ way – playing to his strengths and building a fan-base as he moves from tiny venues up the scale. I first saw him in Barnet 10 years ago in a tiny room above the Green Man pub followed by The Borderline, Shepherds Bush Empire, RAH and now Hammersmith and he just develops and grows gig after gig. The end result is that he has learned to manage an audience and give them what they want while moving his music forward his way – a tricky balancing act.The new material, from the Black Rock’ album went down very well but it was still his solo acoustic interlude and the classic JB numbers that had the crowd in paroxysms of joy – that and a brilliant encore of ZZ Top’s Just Got Paid’.At the moment he is probably the most consistently fine performer around and while the Albert Hall gig last year was special this one out shone it by a mile.
